Job Description
Provides support to the physician performing invasive cardiovascular procedures. Ensures quality control of all equipment and performs special procedures involving the injection of intravenous contrast such as angiograms, coronary as well as peripheral biopsies, angioplasties, stenting, etc. Integrates well with physicians and nurses and has responsibility for emergency call.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Performs a variety of duties to prepare unit for cardiac catherization or other invasive as well as non-invasive procedures.
• Prepares sterile field for invasive procedures and ensures all instrumentation/equipment for each procedure is presented on the table in the established fashion
2. Prepares patient for invasive procedures
• Enters patient, procedure, and equipment into computer system
• Ensures patients are correctly prepped and draped in a sterile fashion
• Responds to patient’s questions alleviating concerns regarding procedure
3. Performs various duties during catherization procedure.
• Monitors patient hemodynamic status during procedure including electrocardiogram. May administer oxygen and sublingual nitrogen under direct supervision of physician performing procedure as necessary.
• Collects all pertinent data and all necessary calculations for physician’s interpretation of results
• Balances, calibrates and records appropriate hemodynamic data.
4. Intervenes in cardiopulmonary emergencies
• Assists in handling emergencies
• Interacts with health care team
5. May perform blood gas determinations using oximeter method while handling blood in a safe and appropriate manner, if qualified licensed Laboratory Technologist, as necessary
6. Operates equipment properly in a reliable manner, per departmental standards, complying with all safety guidelines/policies
7. Performs related duties, as required.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
• Associates Degree in Allied Health, Cardiorespiratory Science, or related field required to ensure knowledge of Cardiovascular System, Anatomy and Physiology
OR
Graduate of an accredited school of Cardiovascular Technology required and Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required.
OR
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program required, New York State Department of Health Licensure as Radiologic Technologist required and for positions filled after March 21, 2011, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.) required.
• Certified Basic Life Support (BLS), required. Certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), preferred.
• Knowledge of EKG rhythm interpretation and hemodynamic pressure
Cath Lab and/or EP Lab experience, preferred.

The salary range for this position is $53.59-$62.87/hour
