Welcoming veterans and military service members to join Northwell Health
Northwell Health’s Center for Emergency Medical Services (CEMS) is proud to offer a paid comprehensive training program, in partnership with our Center for Learning & Innovation and Military Liaison Services, to support veterans and military service members who are looking to advance their career as an emergency medical technician (EMT). This on-the-job, paid training program will prepare eligible veterans and military service members to take the NYS EMT certification exam.
Northwell Health is providing a full scholarship to all veterans and military service members who participate in the Train and Earn EMT Certification Program. Please submit your resume in advance.
*Applicants who register by Wednesday, July 30, will be able to attend a virtual information session on Thursday, July 31, from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
Train & Earn EMT Certification Program overview:
Northwell Health is honored to support veterans and military service members throughout our communities by providing them with an opportunity to jumpstart a career as an EMT.
Program details:

- This on-the-job, paid training program begins on October 6, 2025 and takes place in-person, Monday through Friday, for approximately six-to-eight (6-8) consecutive weeks. During this time, you will earn $20.00 per hour/37.5 hours per week for the training period.
- The training format of the course includes both didactic and experiential learning as an EMT.
- Upon successful completion of the Train and Earn EMT Certification Program and passing the EMT certification exam (inclusive of passing the required Physical Agility Test), each participant has an opportunity to be promoted to a permanent Northwell employee, working as an EMT. You must remain in this role for at least one year at Northwell Health.

Eligibility requirements and program commitments*:
Our training program is for eligible veterans and military service members who:
- Have earned a state-endorsed high school diploma or HSE/TASC (formerly GED certificate).
- Have a driver’s license valid in New York State (without violations or points).
- Provide an employment commitment to work as an EMT at Northwell for at least one year, following successful completion of the program and EMT certification.
- Receive a passing grade for a Physical Agility Test (PAT), administered by Northwell Health Workforce Safety.

What to expect during the Train and Earn EMT Certification Program application process:
Each applicant can use the below steps as a guide throughout the training program application process.
STEP 1: Submit your resume to apply for the Train and Earn EMT Certification Program by Friday, August 8, 2025.
STEP 2: Qualified candidates will be contacted by a member of the Northwell Health team.
STEP 3: Final candidates will be invited to an in-person interview at a designated date and time.
STEP 4: Candidates will be notified of acceptance by the week of August 18, 2025.
