Northwell Health STARS Rehabilitation is committed to advancing the future of healthcare professionals through our comprehensive physical therapy assistant (PTA) scholarship program. The scholarship will be awarded to students who exemplify academic excellence, leadership and a commitment to providing quality care to the communities we serve.
The scholarship recipient will have the opportunity to earn $17 per hour as a PT Aide/Intern while enrolled in the program, for a minimum of 10-hours per week.
Student eligibility requirements:
Our STARS PTA Scholarship program is for a recipient who:
- Has successfully completed one year of physical therapy assistant (PTA) coursework.
- Is currently enrolled for the upcoming academic year (2024-2025).
- Is a U.S. resident (citizen, legal resident, or student visa holder).
- Resides in New York City, Nassau County or Suffolk County.
- Maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the program.

How much will Northwell Health’s STARS PTA Scholarship Program cost?
Northwell Health’s STARS Rehabilitation will fund the cost of tuition, fees and certain other costs for eligible students enrolled in the Physical Therapy Assistant Associate’s degree program for up to a maximum amount of $20,000. The level of reimbursement, which will be provided by the Foundation to you, the student, will be in accordance with the following schedule:
- 1-year employment commitment = up to $7,000
- 2-year employment commitment = $7,000 to $14,000
- 3-year employment commitment = $14,000 to $20,000

Each recipient can use the below steps as a guide for the PTA scholarship program commitment.
- The scholarship recipient will work as a PT Aide/Intern for a minimum of 10-hours per week while enrolled in the program, where you can earn $17 per hour/10-hours per week.
- After graduating, the recipient will be hired by STARS Rehabilitation as a full-time, per-diem PTA until they successfully pass the state licensure exam.
- Upon successful completion of passing the state licensure exam, they will be transferred into a full-time, benefitted PTA role at one of our STARS Rehabilitation locations or affiliates.
