Welcoming Veterans and Active Service Members to apply for Northwell Health’s Staten Island University Hospital Train and Earn Patient Care Associate Program
Northwell Health’s Staten Island University Hospital is proud to offer a paid comprehensive training program, in partnership with our Military Liaison Services Department, to support veterans and active service members who are looking to advance their career as a patient care associate (PCA). This six-to-eight-week, full-time, on-the-job, paid training program will prepare eligible veterans and active service members.
Northwell Health is providing a full scholarship to all veterans and service members who participate in the Train and Earn Patient Care Associate Program. Please submit your resume in advance at the link to the right. Applicants who register by Monday, January 13, will be able to attend our virtual information session from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.
Train and Earn Patient Care Associate Program overview:
Northwell Health is honored to support veterans and active service members throughout our communities by providing them with an opportunity to jump-start a career as a patient care associate.
Program details:

- This on-the-job, full-time, paid training program begins on Thursday, March 13, 2025, and takes place in-person, for six-to-eight (6-8) weeks. During this time, you will earn $23.93 per hour for the training period.
- The training format of the course includes both didactic and experiential learning as a patient care associate.
- Upon successful completion of the Train and Earn Patient Care Associate Program, each participant has an opportunity to be promoted to a permanent Northwell employee, working as a patient care associate. Participants will commit to working for Northwell as a PCA for at least one year.

Eligibility requirements and program commitments*:
Our training program is for eligible veterans and service members who:
- Have earned a state-endorsed high school diploma or HSE/TASC (formerly GED certificate).
- Pass a background check.
- Provide an employment commitment to work as a nurse attendant at Northwell for at least one year, following successful completion of the program.
*Applicants must meet the criteria above to be eligible to apply for the Train and Earn Patient Care Associate Program for veterans and active service members.

- STEP 1: Submit your resume to apply via the link to the right for the Train and Earn Patient Care Associate Program by Thursday, January 23, 2025.
- STEP 2: Qualified candidates will be contacted by a member of the Northwell Health team.
- STEP 3: Final candidates will be invited to an in-person interview at a designated date and time.
- STEP 4: Candidates will be notified of acceptance by the week of February 3, 2025.
