Welcoming veterans, military service members and military spouses to apply for Northwell’s Peconic Bay Medical Center Train and Earn Nursing Support Program
Northwell Health’s Peconic Bay Medical Center is proud to offer a paid comprehensive training program, in partnership with our Military Liaison Services team, to support veterans, military service members and military spouses who are looking to advance their career in nursing support. This six-to-eight-week, full-time, on-the-job, paid training program will prepare eligible veterans, military service members and military spouses.

Northwell’s Peconic Bay Medical Center Train and Earn Nursing Support Program overview:
Northwell Health is honored to support veterans, military service members and military spouses throughout our communities by providing them with an opportunity to jump-start a career as a unit secretary technician or patient care technician (PCT).
Unit Secretary: Performs a variety of departmental office and clerical duties, including, but are not limited to, receptionist duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of one (1) year prior clerical experience is required. Ability to communicate effectively.
Patient Care Technician: Under direction and supervision of registered nurse, a PCT assists with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment. Performs a variety of departmental office and clerical duties, including, but are not limited to, receptionist duties.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of nurse assistant course or prior experience as a nursing attendant or equivalent is required.
- NYS Nurse Attendant certification is preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to work in diversified settings.
- Ability to lift, turn, position, etc. patients, as required.
Program details:

- This on-the-job, full-time, paid training program begins on Monday, August 24, 2026, and takes place in-person, for six-to-eight (6-8) weeks. During this time, as a unit secretary technician or patient care technician, you will earn $24.29 per hour for the training period.
- The training format of the course includes both didactic and experiential learning as a unit secretary technician or patient care technician.
- Upon successful completion of Northwell’s Peconic Bay Medical Center Train and Earn Nursing Support Program, each participant has an opportunity to be promoted to a full-time Northwell employee, working as a unit secretary technician or patient care technician. Participants will commit to working for Northwell as a unit secretary technician or patient care technician for at least one year.

Eligibility requirements and program commitments*:
Our training program is for eligible veterans and service members who:
- Have earned a state-endorsed high school diploma or HSE/TASC (formerly GED certificate).
- Pass a background check.
- Provide an employment commitment to work as a unit secretary technician or patient care technician at Northwell for at least one year, following successful completion of the program.
