Credit-Bearing Internships

What is a credit-bearing internship?

A credit bearing internship is a type of educational experience at Northwell Health which allows students to participate in a clinical or administrative experience at a Northwell Health facility for the purpose of earning academic credit or completing a scholastic requirement on behalf of their school/educational program. These types of experiences are typically unpaid and require an educational affiliation agreement to be in place between the student’s school/academic program and Northwell Health.

What is an educational affiliation agreement?

An educational affiliation agreement is the legal document between Northwell Health and an academic institution or educational program (college, high school, certification-granting), which allows students and visiting faculty to participate in educational experiences at Northwell Health facilities (hospitals, ambulatory sites, corporate offices, etc.).

When do I need to have an educational affiliation agreement?

An educational affiliation agreement is needed if a student is participating in a credit-bearing educational experience or satisfying an academic curriculum requirement at a Northwell Health facility and/or in a remote-learning environment.

Who can request an educational affiliation agreement?

Authorized school / academic program contacts who represent the academic institution/program are permitted to submit requests for an Education Affiliation Agreement. If you are a student seeking to complete a credit-bearing internship at Northwell Health, please work directly with your school’s Program Director/Coordinator to initiate a request for an educational affiliation agreement with Northwell Health.
