Saving lives in the sky, Michael’s inspiring journey into nursing at Northwell Health

Michael Bosi’s career journey was inspired by the experience of surviving a tragic car accident at 30 years old. While Michael was saved by the emergency response team after being airlifted to the nearest hospital, his father tragically lost his life. From this experience, Michael became driven to pursue a career where he could help save lives. Today, he is a flight nurse on Northwell’s SkyHealth team.

His career journey began in 2015 when he started as a per diem emergency department technician at Northwell’s North Shore University Hospital (NSUH) while pursuing a nursing degree. In 2018, he earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing and became a cardiothoracic ICU registered nurse.

Throughout this time, Michael never lost sight of the team who saved his life and the memory of his late father. In 2022, he joined the SkyHealth team as a flight nurse and became certified in July 2023. Through Northwell’s tuition reimbursement, Michael earned his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in strategic healthcare management in 2025.

Today, with the help of his team, Michael provides advanced critical care to critically ill and injured patients during air transport and gets them safely to the nearest hospital. He leverages his nursing skills to assess, diagnosis and identify outcomes. He also collaborates with other team members for procedures and treatments.

“Northwell has supported my growth and development by providing access to advanced clinical education, professional certifications and diverse experiences across critical care and transport medicine,” he shared. “Through ongoing training, simulation, mentorship and exposure, I have continued to strengthen my clinical judgment, technical skills and ability to function effectively in high acuity environments.”
