Northwell Health’s Center for Emergency Medical Services (CEMS) is proud to offer a comprehensive training program, in partnership with our Center for Learning & Innovation and Military Liaison Services, to support our veteran and service member employees who are looking to advance their career as an emergency medical technician (EMT). This part-time, training program will prepare eligible Northwell team members who are veterans and service members to take the NYS EMT certification exam.
Northwell Health is providing a full scholarship to our veteran and service member employees who participate in the Train & Earn EMT Certification Program.
Train & Earn EMT Certification Program overview:
Northwell Health is honored to support our team members who are veterans and service members by providing you with an opportunity to jump-start a career as an EMT.
Program details:
- The EMT training program begins on January 5, 2024 and will offer a part-time, evening schedule, allowing the most flexibility to continue to work and earn a salary in your current position while training to become an EMT.
- The training format of the course includes both didactic and experiential learning as an EMT. (Final details/schedule to follow). This is a fully in-person program.
- Upon successful completion of the Train & Earn EMT Certification Program and passing the EMT certification exam, each participant will be eligible to transfer into a full-time EMT role.

Eligibility requirements and program commitments*:
Our part-time training program is open to Northwell veteran and service member employees who:
- Have earned a state-endorsed high school diploma or HSE/TASC (formerly GED certificate).
- Have a Driver’s license valid in New York State (without violations or points).
- Are a Northwell employee in good standing and in their current position for a minimum of one year.
- Have a current work schedule that does not conflict with the designated training program hours.
*Applicants must meet the criteria above to be eligible for the Train & Earn EMT Certification Program for Veterans and Service Members.
What to expect during the Train & Earn EMT Certification Program application process:
Each applicant can use the below steps as a guide throughout the training program application process.
STEP 1: Submit your resume to apply via the link above for the Train & Earn EMT Certification Program by Sunday, December 3.
STEP 2: Qualified candidates will be contacted by a member of the Northwell Health team.
STEP 3: Final candidates will be invited to an in-person interview at a designated date and time.
STEP 4: Candidates will be notified of acceptance by the week of December 18, 2023.
