Healthcare Management Program Internship
We’re redefining healthcare while preparing its next generation of leaders
About the internship:
- The HMP is an extensive paid summer internship open to current bachelor undergraduate college students whose expected graduation date is between December 2022 and May 2023.
- The HMP internship is a 10-week program built to immerse our Summer Associates in all aspects of healthcare administration and operations at one of our participating hospitals, clinical service lines, departments or healthcare-related businesses.
- Summer Associates are partnered with a carefully selected mentor to teach and guide them through their internship experience.
The HMP internship could be the first stepping stone in your career journey and can lead to many opportunities at Northwell, including prime consideration for a full-time job in our Management Associate Program (MAP) post-graduation.
Internship structure:
Following orientation, you will work with your mentor on meaningful finance and operations projects that positively impact our patients and communities. You will also experience:
- Exposure & networking with executive leadership
- Meaningful hands-on project work and assignments
- Weekly didactic educational sessions
- Attendance at top-level decision-making meetings
- Team building activities
- End of summer Alumni Networking Event where you can meet with executives and HMP Alumni
- And so much more

Advancing your Education
Northwell has many opportunities to further your nursing education, including tuition reimbursement, the Center for Learning and Innovation, among many other programs. This session will be helpful whether you are an experienced nurse looking to go back to school or an associate’s prepared nurse looking for the next steps on the road to obtaining your BSN. During the session, panelists will discuss the many ways they benefited from advanced education with the support of Northwell, as well as the next steps to take for all nursing levels.

Build your Personal Brand
Taking your career to the next level depends on how well you promote and present yourself both in person and on paper. This course will help you improve your personal brand as you strive toward career growth. The course will cover what recruiters and hiring managers look for in a resume and on an interview and discuss the importance of internal networking and how to do it appropriately and successfully.
Exploring Alternate Nursing Career Paths
There are many career paths to take beyond the traditional areas of specialization. During this session you will hear from panelists who will discuss a variety of nursing roles, including case management, quality management, revenue cycle, information technology, home care and more.
Exploring Clinical Areas of Specialization Panel
Explore the many different clinical areas of specialization, including critical care, perioperative, behavioral health, women’s health, oncology, emergency and more. Learn the next steps you need to take to get there, including fellowships and other programs at Northwell. During this session you will hear from experienced nurses and nurse leaders who advanced their careers by specializing, as well as from nurses who graduated within the past two years as to when the timing is right to pursue an area of specialization.
Learning to Lead Panel
Are looking to grow your leadership skills as a current or future leader? During this panel discussion you will hear from current nurse leaders and get advice on the steps to take to advance your career in nursing at Northwell. They will discuss the programs, mentorships and opportunities they benefited from along the way and the tremendous potential that lies ahead.
