Working for Northwell has taught Jennifer Reyes to be adaptable and open to extraordinary Possibilities. This is what led her to find her passion in supporting, mentoring and educating others. Jennifer is most proud of the nursing clinical ladder mentorship program she created for the Critical Care Unit and Respiratory Care Units at her facility. “This program serves to unify staff, increase designation and certification rates, and improve patient outcomes,” she explains. “It is now self-sustaining and an integral part of the unit culture.”

Susan Lee was one of our very first pharmacy residents. Today, she is a specialist pharmacist who established a new medication process which has helped 1.500+ patients get access to life-saving care. Susan also won the New York State Department of Health Comissioner’s Award for assisting to eliminate Hepatitis C. “It’s all because of the work ethic I’ve learned at Northwell, ” she says.“ We set the highest standard for professionalism.”

Our Business Employee Resource Group (BERGs) program is comprised of communities of Northwell team members who help support our culture of inclusion, belonging and health equity. These groups are open to all, and provide professional and personal development to their members, foster a sense of community and organizational awareness, support our community-based partners to address social determinants of health, and help promote health equity initiatives at Northwell.
Our current BERGs include:
Supports team members who are family caregivers. Members share available resources, build a sense of community and foster a culture that helps manage the responsibilities of those who serve as caregivers.
Members include individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+ and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. They are passionate about advancing unity and health equity through an inclusive workplace and helping connect the community with services based on their unique healthcare needs.
Members are focused on the environmental impact of Northwell’s operations. They leverage sustainable and socially responsible initiatives in the workplace and in our communities, with a focus on recycling, transportation and energy efficiency.
Members include people with disabilities, caregivers, clinicians, and allies who are advocates and advisors on issues of acceptance, inclusion, and belonging. They share resources and promote inclusive employment, exceptional patient and team member experience, and health equity for those living with a disability.
Members are focused on connection, empowerment and engagement among Veterans, their family members, and those who support them. The VALOR (Veterans and Allies Liaisons of Reintegration) BERG helps empower the military community to utilize Northwell services and engage individuals in impactful missions that produce positive outcomes.
Members help inspire others to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation (deceased and living) – blood, stem cell, bone marrow, tissue, eye and cornea donation. They provide education on living donation and raise awareness to increase organ donor registrations within our workplace and communities.
Cultivates respect and understanding across all spiritual beliefs and faiths. Through educational events and celebrations, members explore their spiritual perspectives, enhance cultural understanding and promote compassionate care.
Members work to bridge generational gaps by fostering a culture of collaboration, understanding and knowledge sharing. Mentorship programs and educational events enable members to exchange insights on work styles and communication approaches, helping to advance inclusion and belonging.
Bridges
Members embrace relationship building through education, understanding and supporting the cultural, spiritual and ethical values of the communities we serve. Bridges BERG segments are open to all, and include Mosaic (Multicultural), Asian, African American/Caribbean, and Hispanic/Latino.
Caregiver
