Next, you have the opportunity to grow from a senior pharmacist to a lead pharmacist after obtaining five to seven years of relevant experience.
Supervisor, Pharmacy: Supervises and coordinates the team in the planning of pharmacy activities in accordance with established standards. Compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical products using standard procedures to fill written prescriptions. Reviews prescriptions for accuracy, completeness and issuance by an authorized prescriber.

Manager, Pharmacy: Manages, plans, organizes and evaluates the team, activities and resources of pharmacy operations. Prepares and dispenses medications in accordance with established policies and procedures when needed to maintain operational objectives. Maintains operational records and statistics. May lead or participate-in department projects, studies or initiatives.
With six to 10 years of relevant experience and five to seven years of leadership, you have the opportunity to grow into a senior manager role as you continue your career journey.
Senior Manager, Pharmacy: Manages the department’s activities. Supervises the activities of the pharmacy, establishes work assignments, recommends and evaluates policies and procedures. Responsible for scheduling the pharmacy team, coordinates interdepartmental and intra-departmental activities, coordinates inventory management activities, coordinates investigational drug activities, acts as a preceptor for pharmacy students and performs related activities as assigned.
For an opportunity to grow into a career as a director of pharmacy, you will need eight to 12 years of relevant experience, and seven plus years of leadership experience.
Director, Pharmacy: Directs, designs and implements goals, objectives and policies to ensure efficient and effective pharmacy operations. Directs teams, manages purchasing and inventory control and ensures departmental functions in accordance with regulatory and legal requirements.

Patient care associates provide direct care as assigned for a designated group of patients. These team members perform functions requiring skill and competence such as, but not limited to phlebotomy, EKG, obtaining specimens and cultures, activities of daily living and simple wound dressings and vital signs. They also share accountability for quality patient outcomes.
As you move along your career path from a patient care associate, you can grow into a clinical laboratory assistant by pursuing various paths, such as working toward an associate or bachelor’s degree in laboratory technology, a science degree, or relevant certifications. An associate degree in laboratory technology will allow you to work toward obtaining a license to practice as a clinical laboratory technician or histology technician in New York State. You can also receive tuition reimbursement while you continue your education.
Clinical laboratory assistants process reference testing specimens and facilitate their submission to various external reference laboratories. They also ensure external receipt of specimens and return receipt of test results.

Sabrina starts her day by carefully preparing patient rooms, sterilizing them, and ensuring they are fully stocked with essential supplies for the physicians and nurses. A central aspect of her role involves triaging patients, where she warmly greets them, introduces herself, and ensures their comfort throughout their in-office exam experience. Sabrina meticulously documents patient questions and concerns, takes vital signs, and relays detailed feedback to the clinical care provider to ensure comprehensive care. She also assists with clinical tasks such as preparing vaccinations and aiding in tests. Sabrina’s cross-training extends to administrative duties, including answering phones, checking patients in or out, communicating test results, and assisting with intake forms.

Those who have completed 1-3 years as an emergency medical technician or certified nursing assistant are two new ways someone can enter this field. In 2010, Sabrina graduated from The Willsey Institute in Staten Island, NY, where she received her medical assistant certification. Afterwards, Sabrina went on to work in internal medicine at a local healthcare provider. She then, stepped outside of the health care industry to work in local government. When she realized a career in health care was her true calling, she pursued a position at Northwell as a medical assistant on our Staten Island team.

As a neonatal nurse practitioner you are responsible for performing a variety of procedures for patient admission, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and outcome evaluation. You will participate in performance improvement, research and educational activities.
Qualifications for a neonatal NP include:
A possible next step in your career journey is a senior neonatal nurse practitioner, who in addition to some of the responsibilities of a neonatal NP, also oversee scheduling, assigns daily duties and provides guidance and direction to advanced clinical providers.
Qualifications for a senior neonatal NP include the same qualifications as above. Additionally, three plus years of technical experience are required.
Next possible step in your career could be a supervisor of advanced clinical providers, which includes supervising and coordinating the team and daily operations. Supervisors are responsible for interpreting, communicating and implementing policies and procedures; while analyzing efficiency, quality of care and compliance. They act as liaison with related departments and keep current with related legislative issues and performs duties of a nurse practitioner, as needed.
Qualifications for a supervisor of advanced clinical providers include the same qualifications as above for a senior neonatal nurse practitioner as well as:
Another way you can grow into leadership is as a manager of advanced clinical providers, who is responsible for managing, planning, organizing and evaluating the team for multiple major services. ACP managers promote service excellence, participate in unit strategic planning and remains current with related academic, hospital, system, state and national clinical issues.
Qualifications for a manager of advanced clinical providers include the same qualifications as a supervisor of advanced clinical providers, as well as requires six to eight years of technical experience and two to five years of leadership / management experience.
