Job Description
Maintains, operates and repairs building and utilities equipment including high pressure boilers, refrigeration equipment, emergency generators and transfer switches, HVAC systems, building management systems, medical gas systems and related equipment. Inspects all equipment and makes repairs.
Job Responsibility
- * Performs maintenance work relative to various trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical and HVAC and refrigeration work.
- * Checks building conditions on a regular basis and performs maintenance, plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry and painting as indicated.Performs monthly Preventative Maintenance, to include: Air Handlers, Exhaust Fans, Pumps, cooling towers, etc.
- * Maintains and repairs various portable items of the patient care equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, pumps, etc.
- * Maintains and repairs electrical circuits and is able to follow simple circuit diagrams
- * Repairs leaks, replaces defective piping, replaces plumbing fixtures and maintains other plumbing system components including medical gases, etc.
- * Installs and repairs hardware such as door closures, window parts, locks, and louvers.
- * Repairs partitions, hung ceilings, floor tiles, door fixture supports, etc.
- * Maintains and repairs pumps, motors, and other equipment as directed or required.
- * Performs burning, welding or brazing operations at the direction of the Lead Stationary Engineer or other departmental Managers.
- * Installs and maintains ventilation system.Changes filters.Clean and repairs coils, modifies and repairs dampers, etc.
- * Performs other items of work as assigned or directed including moving of furniture and equipment, painting, demolition work, and area cleaning, etc.
- * Performs mechanical and electrical repairs on various types of refrigeration equipment located throughout the hospital, e.g refrigerators, freezers, ice makers, drinking water coolers, dx HVAC units, etc under the direction of the Utilities Manager and or Stationary Engineer.
- * Maintains and repairs all associated HVAC piping, including coils, supplies, returns, traps, strainers and valves.
- * Maintains and provides proper water treatment to HVAC system and boiler chemistry
- Performs related duties as required.

Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stand and work for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to lift and move heavy materials and equipment weighing up to 100lbs
- Must have acceptable corrected visual acuity.
Job Qualification
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- Trade school or field experience required with in the last 3 years dealing directly with HVAC.
- Minimum of 1 year experience as a General Mechanic or Maintenance Mechanic performing Journeymen’s work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or HVAC installations, preferred.
- Minimum of one (1) year experience hospital, preferred.
- Possess a good knowledge of NYC construction codes and standards, required.
- Certificate from the Department of Environmental Protection Agency,(608 Certification) preferred.
- Read, write and speak English to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
- Certificate of Fitness from FDNY**Required with in (6) months of employment**( A35 – Air Compressor ( G71 – Bulk Medical Gas( S12 – City Wide Sprinkler( S13 – City Wide Standpipe ( S14 – Standpipe Multi Zone( S95 – Supervision of Fire Alarm and related Systems( F60 – Fire Guard for torch use( G60 – Torch use with flammable gases)
The salary range for this position is $32.83-$35.49/hour
