Job Description
Performs a variety of technical tasks to prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by a Pathologist to include grossing and frozen sections; pursuant to established and approved protocols, including maintaining equipment and records, and performing quality assurance activities related to examination performance requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility.
Job Responsibility
1. Prepares (grosses) tissue specimens for processing by describing and measuring them while ensuring proper identification throughout processes.
2. Fix, dehydrate, clear, and embed tissue specimens using appropriate techniques.
3. Performs microtomy, using a microtome to cut thin sections of tissue from embedded blocks, and mount tissue sections onto slides for staining prep.
4. Performs routine and special histological staining procedures, including Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) staining.
5. Executes specialized staining techniques, i.e. immunohistochemistry, enzyme histochemistry, immune fluorescence and in situ hybridization.
6. Operates automated staining equipment, solutions, and reagents, and troubleshoots any issues.
7. Maintains accurate records of all procedures performed and maintain patient confidentiality.
8. Assists in the training of new laboratory personnel.
9. Uses independent judgment within defined parameters
10. Works under minimal supervision
11. Assists senior team members in the selection of methods, techniques, and analytical approach
12. Majority of contact is within own department or unit supporting team members carrying out the day to day on clinical cases
13. May mentor and train team members on technical skills team members and department or unit management with carrying out daily clinical operation

Job Qualification
Micrographic orientated histography-surgery experience, required
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Current License to practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist in New York
State required, or current New York State Histotechnologist, plus specialized certifications as needed.
• 0-1 years of technical experience, required.
*Additional Salary Detail
A selected candidate will receive $5,000 in the form of educational reimbursement concluding first year employment and another $5,000 concluding second year of employment. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.When determining a team member’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).
The salary range for this position is $85,090-$147,220/year
